She is not even 2 hours old in this picture.
I know this isn’t the prettiest of shots but it’s a damn perfect moment captured to me, even though I was already trying to navigate being in full swing of postpartum care.

Ok. First.
Frida 👏🏽 Mom 👏🏽 Is👏🏽The👏🏽Shit👏🏽

Now, Incase you don’t know, Frida Mom is a postpartum care company that has created products that aid new mums through the difficult time after birth.

And saying difficult is an understatement. But hey, I’m going to pick my battles today.

Their commercial depicts a new mother navigating the ritual before nighttime feeds. She is obviously in pain. Rocking the mesh panties and maxi-mattresses we have all waddled around with between our legs. Trying to use the bathroom without yelping in pain and squirting what relief a sharp whoosh of water from a peri-bottle can provide.

This is the reality.

So why is it that something so common is censured as graphic?

Apparently, when it comes to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences guidelines, they prohibit commercials for “political candidates/positions, religious or faith-based messages/positions, guns, gun shows, ammunition, feminine hygiene products, adult diapers, condoms or hemorrhoid remedies.”

Yes. That’s right Guns and ammunition take company with adult diapers and feminine hygiene products.

I bet Viagra would get a spot no problem. 🤔

Alas, I digress.

Here’s the commercial for you to decide if this is normal or graphic.

The ad you're about to watch was rejected by ABC & the Oscars from airing during this year's award show. It's not "violent, political" or sexual in nature. O...

My body and what I just went through isn’t gross, graphic or horrendous.

It was real.

Really hard.
Really trying.
Really fucking beautiful.

The Oscars telling Frida that this was not “in-line” with the image that they wanted to portray for their program just reminded me how much farther we have to go to make women and what we go through less shameful and more celebrated.

Our bodies and what they do are beautiful.

If the Oscars refuse to accept it, they don’t get my viewership.

*stepping off my soapbox*
